Week 9

Mirzoeff, How to See the World, Chapter 5:
"Our task is to understand what it means to make a thing visible, or to use a less passive term, to visualize something."
I think Mirzoeff wants us to see something with a different point of view. With those 3D art that are in the museum, I know you have to see the art in different perspective and each perspective will tell you a different story.

“What is seen is familiar, a variant of documentary or street photography. Only the ‘photographer’ was never on that street and did not even take the picture.”
This quote from Mirzoeff made me think that is how each of us see the world around us differently, but now with the modern society we have advance technology so we can capture the moment and cherished the moment.

Chapter 7 John Berger:
"Yet they never speak of the present. Often they refer to the past and always they speak of the future."
John Berger stated that we see art/images, everywhere and it can represent the past or the future but never the present. We take pictures that are the past and future, we show what we think the public will like but never capture the moment right there and then.

"Its promise is not pleasure, but of happiness: happiness as judged from the outside by others."
We can capture a moment and post it on social media, but they will be people out there who would judged your happiness. Although, now our society is more about pleasuring others, but not capturing the moment and being happy yourself with the image you capture.

Monumento de Santiago
This made me think of Wendy Red Star because she went and saw her culture displayed at a museum and saw that some of the information provided was not accurate. So she portrait her culture in a picture. This is my culture here and my country. The monument behind me is the "Santiago Monumento", which they have statue of all the presidents of the Dominican Republic, except the present one. You can see the monument from far away in a different city and still see the first few presidents and the flag still standing in one of the busy road.
