Week 7 (Allyson Merchan)

This week I decided to do my assignment of storytelling about my life as a dental assistant as it reflects a day in my regular life and my determination to reach my goals in life. These 3 images show the other two dental assistants and I at different hours of the day from a 9-6 shift. The the first photo shows the beginning of the day as we wait for the dentist and patient arrive to begin the start of the day, this picture I decided to take an off guard which I find more authentic of my coworker Nina viewing the patient list for the day and the procedures they are coming in for. In the second photo, it shows me looking a bit of a mess with my hair thrown up trying to make light of a packed day as I play around with the denture mold, this represents how I enjoy making everyone laugh in the office to minimize the stress/burnout of work. Lastly, in the last photo it represents my coworker Denise waiting for the dentist to finish the last cleaning (PeriodX) of the day so she can write the procedure needed for the patients next visit as he looks at the x-rays taken.

  Yoko Ono Influence
"art represents a way of showing people how you can think, and even though some people think of it as a beautiful wallpaper that you can sell, Yoko Ono rather perceives it as a direct connection with activism."

I agree with this quote because Art showcases a story or shows what the ]artist was thinking or even a message they were trying to convey. Yoko Ono uses her art pieces to share a message, its not about the beauty but the story behind it.

"Yoko Ono art pioneered the ideas of feminism in artistic practice, and she dedicated her whole life to campaigning for world peace. Even though she was frequently criticized and even ostracized by the press and the public, she fought her way through all the hardships with her creativity and challenging artwork."

I feel that because Yoko Ono was criticized she used her artwork to express feminism and speak her truth. She did not let criticism affect her and used it as a voice for herself.

Interview with Shaun Leonardo
"I offer that narrative with the recognition that, over my life and professional career, I have witnessed young people be easily derailed when they don’t see themselves in the representation of who is creating."

I agree with this quote, many young people love to see themselves within anyone they look up to because it provides an inspiration to them. Being able to connect and see themselves through someone brings joy and possibility.

"I’m asking an individual to not only create their own associations with their lived experience but also imagine that same movement embodied by a very different person."

One persons perspective is not the same as another persons perspective. I enjoyed the way he described this art piece he created because it shows that many people can view the same image but have different thoughts on what it is.
