My central theme was chaos and order. I wanted to demonstrate the flow of both
throughout the short video and how no matter how much order is placed, there will
always be chaos that topples over order. Like everything in life, when one aspect is
resolved, multiple conflicts are left unresolved.
I wanted to move my hands in the same rhythm as the Danse Macabre with its different
and sporadic sense of movement. It took me a few tries to really follow along with the
music as best as I can and try to change the flow of my hand movements. I was mostly
inspired by an artist named Heather Hansen who paints enormous charcoal pieces with
only her body and repetitive motions as she physically glides around the canvas.
I have also been inspired by the short films and performance art aspect of Marina
Abramovich. Especially in her “Freeing the Memory” piece as she states things sporadically
at the moment, I moved my hands based on what I heard in Danse Macabre.
Quotes:
I’m asking an individual to not only create their own associations with their lived experience
but also imagine that same movement embodied by a very different person.

The workshop, the platform of teaching and learning, is in and of itself the performance.
It doesn’t lead to another output or product.

Artists need to take in, to process, to decipher, to separate from the noise and create
things that are beautiful and impactful to the spirit.
