John Berger Chapter 1 Quotes & Responses
"Images were first made to conjure up the appearances of something that was absent. Gradually it became evident that an image could outlast what it represented; it then showed how something or somebody had once looked - and thus by implication how the subject had once been seen by other people."
This quote reminds me of the saying that goes "a picture is worth a thousands words." It's easy to look back on times and use sheer memory to remember how you or loved ones looked or how much fun you had then but images are a huge help in that. There has been many times when I would forget a certain memory and I'll look back in my photos and find a picture from a night that I somehow forgot and everything would come flooding back in my head.
Yoko Ono's Influence Quotes & Responses
"Today, Yoko Ono continues to express her artistic practice strongly as ever. In 2011, the 78-year-old made history as the oldest artist to have a number-one dance hit with her single Move on Fast. Her musical career has received positive acclaim and her songs have been reworked by famous artists like Basement Jaxx and the Pet Shop Boys."
I just find it amazing how she is still kicking with her career and has not given up. I can't imagine how hard life must have been for her after Lennon died, but she proved to be resilient and move on with her life because I feel that's what Lennon would have wanted her to do.
"Ono continues to honor Lennon's memory and their joint commitment to world peace with a number of different projects. The pioneering conceptual artist, musician, performer and activist, is now 82 years old."
I think in a world where we're always being forced to rush our lives to get to the next level, I think it's inspiring that a woman like her is still able to create art at her age. We're quick to think that being in our 20's or even beyond is too late but this just goes to show it's never too late to be who you want to be.
For my performance piece this week, I took a timelapse video of myself in my media design class. This was in a span of 15 minutes but it all came down to a minute once it was finished. For the most part, I was up since 5AM this day and I was quite sleepy throughout the whole class and couldn't pay much attention. As I was sitting there, I lost track of what was going on and even forgot I was recording for a bit, I started staring at the screen and felt like I wasn't mentally there. I also ended up laying my head for a bit before I realized I was still recording.
