the light at the end of the tunnel, Angie Cardona
For my piece, I was completely inspired by Jaune Quick-To-See-Smith's work in the sense of the drip effect of her paintings. I wanted to replicate that same effect so subtly in the background of the photo. I wanted that background to represent the bleak past that's slowly starting to clear out for a better future. The candle in front represents the light of the way to a brighter future.
My "character" per se is an explorer of some sort trying to look for that "brighter future". My character is wearing a patterned bandana to replicate the patterns that Jaune Quick-To-See-Smith utilizes in her work aesthetic. I wanted to be as vague as possible with this piece so that the scenarios of each viewer could be easily interpreted or related to whatever the viewer has in their mind.
Quotes:
"Representation is the way to depict events and experience in other form, whether on film, in photography, or via any other medium." (Chapter 7)
"Global cities may present themselves as transparent hubs of frictionless commerce, but their residents often experience them as conflicted, dangerous, and even haunted. These are the places from which we have to see the world today and where we learn to see." (Chapter 5)
