Performance art

This performance art piece is inspired by Carrie Mae Weems, The Kitchen Table Series, 1990. It's critiquing domestic labor and how typical women are the ones who have to worry about cooking and cleaning. I wanted to show that cooking and cleaning is not only for women but it's important that everyone including men take on the responsibility. Cooking and cleaning is act of self love where you decompress and cleanse your space it should be done out of love not obligation.
We have become so accustomed to dividing domestic labor because men were the ones working and women couldn't. When in fact women werent allowed to work because of men. Thankfully women taught for the right to have a voice and place in society that wasn't under the control of men. The result of that is now more men are involved in chores; the creating healthy form of love and relationships.
Women can see themselves beyond the kitchen and are contributing to society in major ways and men have the knowledge and skill to care for themselves.
It means putting oneself into a certain relation to the world that feels like knowledge -- and, therefore, like power."

“Everyone can relate to this work,” Sann said. “It’s not just Black women; it’s white women, Asian women. Men can see the women in their lives—memories from their childhood or scenes from their marriage or their family life. It’s so universal...”
