"Photographs really are experience captured, and the camera is the ideal arm of consciousness in its acquisitive mood."
I completely agree with this quote. Photographs have a story within them of any experience going on and the camera in which captures the photo is the "mood" and I interpret that as in how the camera captures the picture it sets the tone for the entire picture.
"A photograph passes for incontrovertible proof that a given thing happened. The picture may distort; but there is always a presumption that something exists, or did exist, which is like what's in the picture."
This quote is one that caught my attention because although a picture may become old or "distort," it shows proof of something happening or existing no matter how long ago it was.
“Everyone can relate to this work,” Sann said. “It’s not just Black women; it’s white women, Asian women. Men can see the women in their lives—memories from their childhood or scenes from their marriage or their family life. It’s so universal and yet representation like this is so rare.”
The photographs captured in the Kitchen Table Series can relate to any women in every aspect. Not only does it capture women doing a certain motion but it captures the essence of women in all aspects.
“This woman can stand in for me and for you; she can stand in for the audience, she leads you into history. She’s a witness and a guide,” Weems told fellow photographer Dawoud Bey in a discussion for Bomb magazine in 2009."
The woman can represent every women which is relatable not just to one specific. The women is showcasing the many emotions that typically everyone goes through especially when in the comfort of their own home.
